At the Shiko Munakata Memorial Hall (2 Matsubara, Aomori City, TEL 017-777-4567 ), "2023 Spring Exhibition REMEMBER-Zakke Sanbo Shujin and Kamakurayama-" is currently being held.

The exhibition was held in 1957 by Aomori-born printmaker Shiko Munakata (1903-1975), known for his prints and paintings of women and Buddha, at his villa and atelier "Zoka Sanbo" in Kamakura. In the "Hanga" (a coined word coined by Shiko that means a print), "Yamatoga" (paintings drawn using Japanese paints), and "Zoka Sanbo" We will exhibit 72 items, including the plaque that was on display.

Curator Ayako Takenami said, "Kamakura is the place where Shiko spent his time from the height of his popularity and ability until just before his death. At Zoka Sanbo, the momentum from when he won awards at the Triennale in Sao Paulo and Venice was preserved. Before he passed away at the age of 72 after passing his 60th birthday, he created works that used things around him as themes, such as self-portraits staring at himself and landscapes in his garden."

The largest work in the exhibition, Hanaya no Saku, was created in 1961 (Showa 36) and is approximately 3 meters high and 7 meters wide. The same work, which was painted in pink and blue, was displayed at the front entrance of the Aomori Prefectural Office, which was completed in the same year, and it is said that it was Shiko's first "large board mural". A replica is currently on display at the Aomori Prefectural Office.

Mr. Takenami said, "The highlight of this exhibition is that you can appreciate the contrast of 'movement', 'stillness', 'power' and 'calmness' of the works created in the Kamakura atelier at the same time. I hope many people will visit. I want it," he called out to the museum.

The opening hours are from 9:00 to 17:00. Closed on Mondays. The admission fee is 550 yen for adults, 300 yen for students, 200 yen for high school students, and free for elementary and junior high school students. Until June 18th.
