The Hirosaki Brick Warehouse Museum (Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, TEL 0172-32-8950) is currently holding a solo exhibition by artist Shinji Ohmaki, "The Horizon's Whereabouts."

According to Ohmaki, he touched on the customs and nature of various parts of Aomori Prefecture and incorporated them into his work. There are about 20 works, including works with motifs of oak leaves and woodpecker sounds heard in the Hirosaki forest, related to the ogre tree in the Onizawa district, which is said to have been the site of a legend. The main exhibit, "Liminal Air Space-Time: Event Horizon," is a large-scale work that utilizes an atrium space, with a 14.4-meter-wide and 11-meter-deep cloth that moves like a wave. It is said that the sounds heard from the work were created by collecting the voices of people living in Tsugaru.

Mr. Ohmaki said, "My connection with Hirosaki dates back to my second year of high school. Yoshitomo Nara, who was born in Hirosaki, advised me to 'become a sculptor.' The fact that this exhibition was about Mr. Nara makes me feel like I've passed the baton."

In conjunction with the event, the café "BRICK" adjacent to the museum will sell "Cherry Crafty with Mixed Berry Sauce" (880 yen) as the first limited sweets. We also sell tin badges and postcards. As a project to support student appreciation, the first 1,000 students enrolled in five universities in Hirosaki City will be invited free of charge.

The opening hours are from 9:00 to 17:00. The viewing fee is 1,300 yen for adults and 1,000 yen for university and vocational school students. Until October 9th.
