The Hirosaki Castle Snow Lantern Festival is currently being held at Hirosaki Park (Shimoshirogane-cho, Hirosaki City).

This festival showcases snow lanterns, Kamakura, and projection mapping of large snow sculptures made by citizens in Hirosaki Park. It's been 2 years since the event was held.

The featured large snow sculpture is based on the old public hall of Hakodate Ward. A Western-style building in Hakodate that has been designated as an important national cultural property, it has become a large snow sculpture measuring 15.5 meters wide and 6 meters high. The city of Hakodate celebrated its 100th anniversary in August of last year, and it was chosen as the subject because of the deep exchanges through tourism. Citizens' group "Payapayarabo" performs projection mapping on large snow sculptures. The approximately 3-minute video depicts the scene of crossing the Tsugaru Straits from Mutsu Bay to Hakodate and returning to Hirosaki Park. Screened every 20 minutes from 18:00.

Snow sculptures of "HIROSAKI" will be set up in the public square, projection mapping will be projected, and about 70 Neputa paintings will be displayed in the corridor in front of Ninomaru Amusement Park in the "Tsugaru Nishiki-e Grand Corridor", which is 45 meters long. About 300 mini kamakura are lined up in the west kuruwa, and they are illuminated by candlelight at night.

On February 9th, the first day of the festival, there were many visitors even though it was a weekday, and there were many foreigners. A man and woman in their 20s living in Hirosaki said with a smile, "It was fun to see so many things, but it was colder than I expected and I couldn't see everything. I'd like to wear warm clothes and come again."
