On November 27th, "Danborian 5" was held at the Aomori Prefectural Tourism and Product Center Aspam (Agata, Aomori City).

This event showcases objects and cosplay made from cardboard. It started in 2018 (Heisei 30), and this is the 5th time this year. There were 32 groups from all over the country, and more than 100 works were lined up.

Takahisa Mikami, a member of the executive committee, said, ``I thought that Aomori had a high level of skill in making dolls like Nebuta, so I started with the idea of being able to spread the word as a subculture. Participants come from all over the country to find out about it and prepare works for this event."

This exhibition is divided into three categories: "Smile" for first-time participants, "Objects" for exhibiting works, and "Cosplay" for wearing costumes made from cardboard. At Smile, Mr. Mikami exhibited "a high-level work despite being a first-time participant," such as movie characters and townscapes made of cardboard, and muscle training equipment.

On the stage at the venue, cosplay participants filmed dance videos and gave lectures on Danborian, and participants marched through the Aspam building twice in the morning and afternoon. The state of the venue was also distributed on the Internet.

After the 5th event, Mr. Mikami said, "Even with the corona crisis, this event was able to step up little by little. We want to continue to make it an event where participants and visitors can grow."
