The final screening of "Fashion Koshien 2022 (21st National High School Fashion Design Championship)" was held on August 28th at the Hirosaki Civic Hall (Shimoshirogincho, Hirosaki City).

A fashion design contest for high school students from all over Japan. The final judging was held in fashion show format, and was held for the first time in three years with an audience. 2020 was canceled due to the new coronavirus, and in 2021 only works were judged.

This year, 2,108 entries from 83 schools from 33 prefectures were submitted, and 33 teams from 21 schools in 18 prefectures, which passed the first stage of design drawing screening, participated in the final screening. The judging session will be streamed live and archived.

The winning design was "Single-cell na..." designed by Sasane Motegi of Yokohama Design School (Kanagawa Prefecture). Looking back, Mr. Motegi said, "I had a hard time turning the flat design into a three-dimensional design." Yuna Akihama, who served as the model, said with a smile, "The two of us made the spherical parts one by one, and we were able to make something exactly as we imagined it in the design drawing."

Yumiko Hara, a judge, said, ``The outstanding red color that used various materials and the overall balance led to the evaluation.'' The work was also selected as the "Kirari Award", which is decided by voting by the leading teachers of the participating teams.

The runner-up was "gimmick" from Hirosaki Jitsugyo High School. Hiyori Ishizawa, who designed the model, said, "It was difficult to make it as if it were a trompe l'oeil. During the runway walk, I prepared a trick to put on the hat that was hidden at the end of the skirt. Honoka said, "It was my first experience trying to be a model, but I was always nervous."

At the closing ceremony, Mr. Hara said, "I was deeply moved to see so many high school student-like works. Above all, I was able to see what we were expressing in reality and feel and experience it at the competition. I was happy," he said.
