On June 29, Hirosaki University (Tomita, Hirosaki City) and "TAKEO" (Taito-ku, Tokyo), which manufactures and sells insect food, started trial sales of "Migratory locust senbei" made from insects.

Commercialized by Taiseidou Senbei (Aomori City) using powdered migratory locust. The only raw materials are wheat flour from Aomori prefecture, migratory locust cultivated by TAKEO in Kanagawa, and salt from Okinawa. According to Ryohei Kanbara, an assistant professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Hirosaki University, who provided technical guidance, this is the first product in Japan that uses Tonosamabatta as food.

Mr. Kanbara says, "We asked our students to sample samples with different amounts of migratory locust powder, and commercialized the 4% product, which had the largest amount."

Mr. Sugawara's research target is migratory locust. By studying the ecology in detail, it will lead to problems of grasshoppers that occur all over the world and to future food problems as applied research. As part of this development, we have been conducting research for two years.

"Migratory locust senbei" is 3.5 cm square and is individually wrapped in 4 pieces. The price is 390 yen. On the package, the original character "Tonosama grasshopper", which was originally from Hirosaki and raised in Kanagawa, was drawn, and the Saaya shape with the edge of Tsugaru Kogin-zashi was incorporated in the background.

Mr. Sugawara says, "Shrimp-like senbei with a savory shell. In recent years, insect foods are getting more and more attention, such as being sold at major stores. I hope this will give you an opportunity to get to know the taste."

It will be sold on the "TAKEO" site.
