Illumination began on February 1st at Niogataki Falls in Nishimeya, Aomori.

The 33-meter-high Niogataki Falls freezes in the midwinter. Currently, it is partially frozen, but not entirely. If the whole freezes, it will be the first time in four years since 2018 (Heisei 30). Ryo Hirata, the secretariat of the Meya Tourism Association, said, "Because of the forecast that it will continue to cool down, it may freeze completely in another week."

As usual, the lights are blue, green, and yellow. Many local residents are looking forward to the "fantastic" and "majestic" lighting up of the freezing, and there are many online users watching the homepage of Nishimeya Village, which updates the freezing situation at 8 o'clock every morning.

Continuing from last year, the "Niogataki Ice Festival" held every year on the third Sunday of February will be canceled to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. At the festival, where the thickness and shape of the frozen waterfall were used to occupy farming illnesses, stage shows such as folk songs and mountain climbing banquets were held, centering on Shinto rituals.

Mr. Hirata said, "I'm looking forward to the freezing for the first time in four years. I usually opened a store, but this year it's only lit up. When you come, I would like you to cooperate with infectious disease measures such as wearing a mask. ".

The light-up lighting time is from 16:30 to 22:00. Until February 28th.
