On May 29, DJ "GAMEBOY", who lives in Goshogawara, Aomori, won the nationwide online DJ battle contest "Kamikaze DJ Battle".

GAMEBOY is from Goshogawara and Kanagi. He works as a DJ player while helping farming at his parents' home. The winning "Kamikaze DJ Battle" is a national competition that has been held every year since 2014 (Heisei 26) to compete for DJ play skills. The "New Tech Division" that participated is said to be a newly established division because it is a freestyle that uses a controller other than the turntable, and the number of DJ styles that do not scratch on the turntable is increasing.

GAMEBOY, who has been playing guitar since he was a student, went to Toronto, Canada to study music after graduating from university. During the four years he spent in Canada, he touched various people who devote themselves to music activities. “I first came into contact with the world of DJ when I was in Canada,” says GAMEBOY.

After returning to Japan, he lived in Tokyo and started DJing. According to GAMEBOY, he has never played with analog scratches, and has a play style that does not use turntables, and he has a unique style of carving multiple songs using a sampler. "It was fun to bring in equipment without a turntable and play DJ, and the opportunities for activities gradually increased," he recalls.

GAMEBOY moved his base to his hometown Goshogawara after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 (Heisei 23), and in 2014 (Heisei 26) from the label "Otodayo Record" in Paris, France, "Steampunk Ninja" Ninja) ”has been released. In 2018 (Heisei 30), he won the runner-up in the DJ controller battle "C plus One". GAMEBOY says, "In an era when performances can be transmitted online. I don't feel the disadvantages of the region so much."

This year's "Kamikaze DJ Battle" will be held online following last year, and eight people will participate in the finals. The winner was decided by a vote of the judges and the general audience. GAMEBOY was forced to struggle in the early stages of voting, but showed a catch-up in the second half, and in the end he won first place with an overwhelming victory that was more than 100 votes behind second place.

"I think the support from the locals and the support from people in a genre completely different from DJs on blogs and SNS led to the vote. I'm just grateful. Above all, I actually watched my performance video. I'm glad that I felt the response from the votes, "says GAMEBOY.

"I would like to give back to my activities rather than expressing my gratitude. As a result, I would like to continue activities that raise interest in Aomori as a result of my attention."
