The special exhibition ``Yoshitomo Nara: The Beginning Place From Here'' will be held at the Aomori Museum of Art (Yasuda-Kono, Aomori City, TEL 017-783-3000 ) on October 14th.

Yoshitomo Nara, a native of Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture, is an artist who has received international acclaim during his approximately 40 years of activity. Her representative works include paintings of children with sharp eyes and three-dimensional works of dogs, and the museum has permanent exhibits such as ``Aomori Inu'' and ``Miss Forest.''

This is Nara's first solo exhibition at the museum in about 10 years since the exhibition ``You and I Look A Little Like''. This time, it will not be a traveling exhibition, but will only be held in Aomori.

Approximately 200 works will be exhibited at the venue, divided into themes such as ``House,'' ``Layered Time and Space,'' ``Traveling,'' ``No War,'' and ``Rock Cafe ``33 1/3'' and a Small Community.'' In addition to about 20 new works, over 15 works will be shown for the first time in Japan.

Nara said, ``I often recall the past, such as an oil painting depicting a Tsugaru landscape that I thought I had thrown away when I was a student, or a recreation of the coffee shop where I worked part-time during my third year of high school, and I look at myself objectively. It was an opportunity."

``We are particular about holding the event in winter, and the exhibition runs until the season of snowfall. The snowy landscape of Aomori, covered in white, is a source of imagination for me, and I want people to experience the work as one with the winter air.'' "friend.

Shigemi Takahashi, curator of the museum, said, ``This exhibition is being held in Aomori because it explores the origins of Mr. Nara. Many of the hometowns that Mr. Nara had fond memories of have already disappeared, and that is why the memories of Mr. Nara remain so vivid. "Maybe we were able to get closer. I hope that the experience of this exhibition will be a place where visitors can start from here."

Opening hours are 9:30-17:00. Admission fee is 1,500 yen for general public, 1,000 yen for high school and university students, and free for elementary and junior high school students. Until February 25, 2024.
