On September 12th, British Ambassador to Japan Julia Longbottom visited Kudo Pan in Aomori (Kanazawa 3, Aomori City).

Kudo Bread is a bread manufacturing company founded in 1932 (Showa 7). The company's signature product, ``British Toast,'' released in 1967, is a sweet bread made by sandwiching margarine and granulated sugar between two pieces of mountain-shaped bread. The product name came from the founder, Hanemon Kudo's, and comes from the fact that the mountain-shaped bread was called British bread.

The packaging design features the Union Jack, and after its release, the embassy was contacted by fax to confirm the use of the national flag.

According to a representative from the company's sales department, Mr. Longbottom, who was scheduled to visit Aomori, contacted him and asked if he would like to tour the manufacturing plant in person, so he accepted. This is the first time for UK officials to tour the factory. Mr. Longbottom was surprised by the fact that there was a production line specifically for British toast, and by the variety of varieties available.

Longbottom introduced it on X (formerly Twitter) on the same day, saying, ``(British toast) is Aomori's soul food, but it is spreading the name of Britain along with its wonderful taste.'' He concluded with, "How about a collaboration product with the embassy?"

The person in charge said with a smile, ``A new page has been born in the history of Kudo Bread.''
