Lighting up of Japan's largest big ginkgo "Big Yellow" in Kitakanegasawa district of Fukaura-cho, Aomori began on November 12.

A ginkgo tree that is over 1000 years old, is 31 meters high, and has a trunk thickness of 22 meters. It is the largest ginkgo tree in Japan, the third tallest among all tree species in Japan, and the first thickest trunk, and in 2004 it was designated as a national natural monument.

"The area is little affected by the beach breeze and the temperature does not drop, so it will be a little late in the autumn," says Tuna Suzuki of the Tourism Division of the town. It is said to be a sacred tree in the area, as it is said that snow will start to accumulate after all the leaves have fallen off. It will be the fourth year to light up this year, but I recalled, "I thought I would be scolded at first."

Although it is a nationally designated natural monument, the giant tree has not been able to attract customers as a tourist destination. Mr. Suzuki had a plan to light up for many years, but it was not realized. When they decided to light up in September 2012, they said thankful messages from local elderly people, saying they had shown us good things. “I'm glad I did,” Suzuki smiles.

Named "Big Yellow" in the second year. “I'm not good at English, so I made it simple,” says Mr. Suzuki. This year, I received a request from a TV station in Tokyo for coverage, and I feel that the response is gradually increasing. Autumn leaves are currently 70% colored. "I'll be in full bloom by the middle of next week," he said.

Implementation time is from 16:30 to 20:30. Until November 30th. It may end early depending on the condition of the leaves.
