Kudo Bread (3 Kanazawa, Aomori City) started selling a new product "Ruskbread made with English toast ear" on May 1st.

British toast is a sweet bread made by sandwiching margarine and granulated sugar between two mountain-shaped breads (British bread). It is also known as “Aomori people’s soul food” and features a package designed with the British flag. To date, there are more than 200 series products.

"Ruskbread made from British toast" and its sister product "Chocolate rusk made from British toast" are products made using the crusts on both sides that were cut off during the bread making process. Kudo Bread agreed with the "Aomori Prefecture SDGs Effort Declaration Registration System" and developed it to reduce food loss from the perspective of SDGs.

During the development, we repeatedly tested the firing conditions. The person in charge said, ``We couldn't get a crispy texture, so as a result of trial production, we were able to achieve the ideal texture by baking it twice.'' "Chocolate rusks are covered in two stages so that all rusks are coated with chocolate," he said.

Three weeks have passed since the launch, and according to the person in charge, both rusk bread and chocolate rusk are the best-selling products in May. The person in charge said with a smile, "I hope the British toast will be an opportunity to think about the SDGs."

The reference retail price is rusk bread made from British toast ears = 130 yen, chocolate rusk made from English toast ears = 135 yen.
