The brewery "Aomori Brew Pub" (Agata, Aomori City, TEL 017-711-8254 ) opened its grand opening on April 21st.

Aomori City's first craft beer brewery and bottle shop. Gareth Barnes, who was born in Colorado, USA, moved to Aomori after serving in the US Air Force, and is active as a Tsugaru Shamisen player and brewer, launched the company.

The grand opening was originally scheduled for 2020, but we were looking for the timing while considering the impact of the corona disaster. In the meantime, craft beer from “Be Easy Brewing”, which Gareth runs in Hirosaki, and other craft beers from all over Japan will be sold, and coffee beans from coffee shop “Maron” (Yasukata, Aomori City) and local fruits, rice, and vegetables such as Aomori cassis will be sold. It is said that it has been brewing beer that makes use of locally produced ingredients and OEM (manufacturing other company's brand products).

On June 1, last year, renovation work began in preparation for the grand opening. We have adopted a style system in which customers fill their own favorite beer in the amount they like. Mr. Gareth said, "Like a gas station, the price is added to the card according to the amount of beer you drink. You can rest assured that the price is always displayed, and you can also sample a small amount of beer that you are drinking for the first time. It's a major system in Europe and the United States, but it's still rare in Japan, so I hope people will enjoy it."

You can bring your own hood. “You can buy whatever you want,” says Gareth. It is said that it is creating a map of nearby restaurants that can take out. Eight types of beer are always available. When the barrel runs out, it replenishes with a different kind of barrel. Gareth says with a smile, "You can enjoy a new taste in about a week." In addition, soft drinks such as oolong tea, cola, and ginger ale are also available.

The store area is about 35 tsubo. The interior is "studded with Aomori style", the modern logo of the store name and koginzashi are designed on the wall, and the lighting with Akebi work and the table with Tsugaru lacquer are placed on the small rise. Gareth says, "I hope it becomes a place where you can fully feel Aomori even though it's a craft beer shop."

Mr. Gareth, who is thinking about various ways to enjoy beer, says, "I want to hold an event to order craft beer from outside the prefecture that I can't usually drink. I want to aim for a store that can satisfy even people," he said.

Business hours are from 17:00 to 22:00 (15:00 on Saturdays). Closed Sundays and Mondays.
