The food loss store "Palette Shop Aomori Minami" (Noginojiri, Aomori City) opened on April 6 at the entrance of the Aomori distribution complex.

The first pallet shop franchise operated by Tsugaruya (Hirosaki City), a wholesaler with more than 2,500 customers nationwide. We handle products such as beverages, processed foods, and confectionery that are not sold at major mass retailers, and sell them at 50-80% discounts. The company's president, Satoshi Shishido, said, "We are working on the problem of food loss by selling products that are close to their expiration date and waste foods that are out of specification."

The first store, the Pallet Shop, was launched in September 2021 when non-standard onions were sold unattended in front of the company's warehouse in Hirosaki. The number of products handled gradually increased, and in October of the same year, it opened as a manned sales office. Currently, in addition to beverages and processed foods, we also handle non-standard vegetables and fruits. Mr. Shishido says confidently, "We use our experience in the wholesale business to purchase our products at prices that mass retailers cannot offer."

The store area is about 50 tsubo. Opened a store in the remains of a convenience store. One-third of the store is used as a warehouse space, and products are sold on pallets. “This is also the origin of the store name,” says Mr. Shishido. Payment is cash only.

When it pre-opened on April 1, word of mouth and SNS attracted customers, and it is said that there are already repeat customers. Mr. Shishido says with a smile, "We don't just sell them at a bargain price. We hope that this will help raise awareness of the SDGs and raise awareness of a recycling-oriented society."
