Aomori's high-speed passenger ship "Polar Star" ended its service on March 31st.

Polar Star is a regular line connecting Aomori, Wakinosawa and Sai. In 1971, the Ominato route and the Oma route were merged and opened. Because it is a route that connects the remote areas of the Shimokita Peninsula, it has been designated as a "remote island route" by the national government. Operated by Sea Line (1 Yanagawa, Aomori City).

On March 31, the final day, four flights were operated, and more than ten passengers boarded the final flight, which departed from Aomori Port at 15:15. At the time of departure, there were people waving at the polar star, and a whistle sounded from the adjacent "Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship Hakkoda Maru" to see off the final departure.

A man in his 40s from Wakinosawa said, "It takes three hours by car from Wakinosawa to Aomori, but one hour by boat. The view of Taijima from the boat always makes me feel like I've come home. A train whistle sounded and announcements were made throughout the city, but I feel sad that I will not be able to return home," he said.
