At Myokengu Shrine in Aomori's Ohoshi Shrine (1 Tonya-cho, Aomori City), a candle melting into the shape of a dragon is currently on display.

A candle that transforms into a dragon can be found on the altar of the shrine, which has a history of over 1,200 years. Every year, candles are lit from New Year's Eve until January 5th so that worshipers can visit at any time, but according to Yuichi Kudo, the official in charge of Ohoshi Shrine, about eight years ago. It is said that the phenomenon of candles melting into a dragon's form began to occur.

This year too, on the morning of January 1st, the candles on the altar were in the shape of a dragon. Kudo said, "Depending on the year, it takes on various forms of dragons. People in their 80s and 90s who have been visiting the shrine say, 'I've never seen a phenomenon like this before.' Why does it take the form of a dragon?" Weird,” he says.

After posting a photo of the shrine on January 3, it is said that the number of worshipers who want to see the real thing is increasing. On the 7th, when the Burning Festival "Donto-yaki" was held, worshipers who had finished their visit were seen taking pictures one after another with their smartphones. A woman in her 40s said with a smile, "I came across your post. I was surprised that it would naturally take on the shape of a dragon. Something good should happen."

Mr. Kudo says with a smile, "It is said that the gods express their joy. I hope this year will be a good year to be protected by the gods."

A candle in the shape of a dragon will be displayed as "Dragon of the Year" and will be open to the public throughout the year.
