The contract for the next season of Aomori's professional basketball team "Aomori Watts" mascot character "Quicky Detch" is uncertain.

Established in 2012, Aomori Watts celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Detchi is a squirrel character who has been enrolled since the founding and was created through public recruitment. During games, he supports the players with the cheerleading team "Blue Rings" and works on Watts' publicity activities in the prefecture. The jersey number is "02" after the pronunciation of "Watts".

Watts is making a fresh start with the slogan "BE THE CHANGE" for the 2022-23 season, which starts on October 1st. Only two players have renewed contracts since last season. So far, the contracts with all players have been completed, but according to Aomori Watts' Twitter updated on August 3, Detsch is "on hold".

Booster commented, "I can't imagine Watts without Detsch" and "Detch is working so hard..." (original mom), and there are voices of concern about Detsch's future. Mariko Hasegawa, from the business department, said, "In the B League, there are cases where the official mascot character becomes unofficial, and it's a tough world where it's not always possible to keep it official. Unfortunately, the contract for Detsch is still undecided."

According to Detsch, he set three goals for his contract renewal: improving his dance skills, trimming his coat, and increasing sales of official merchandise. “Actually, Detsch was in charge of the design of the official goods, and it seems that the goal was to create goods that would make people want more boosters,” says Hasegawa.

Detsch fell from 24th to 29th in last season's B League number one mascot competition. Hasegawa said, "It seems that Detsch himself is starting to think that he needs to change to match this season's slogan, and he seems to have changed his mind, such as energetically practicing dance."

Detsch plans to meet with president Toshiyuki Kitatani in early September.
