    The rice field art of Inakadate Village in Aomori Prefecture is currently in golden color and is in full bloom.

    Rice field art that uses rice fields as a canvas to create giant paintings. The village holds two venues every year, and since both can be seen from the observatory, it is expressed three-dimensionally using the method of perspective. This year, 10 varieties and 7 colors of rice were used.

    This year's themes for the first rice field art are Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" and Kuroda Seiki's Japanese painting "Lakeside," while the second rice field art venue is "Hokkaido and Northern Tohoku Jomon Archeological Sites." It became an illustration commemorating the World Heritage registration.

    Viewing starts May 30th. "Mona Lisa" was the theme in 2003 (Heisei 15), so it was a new challenge. Fumito Suzuki of the village's Planning and Tourism Division said with a smile, "Because perspective was not yet used at the time, many people were surprised at the progress in technology compared to the work 20 years ago."

    This year in Aomori, heavy rains caused flood damage in various places, but it is said that it did not have a big impact on the rice paddy art. Mr. Suzuki said, "The rice plants in the 'Lakeside' lake part fell over and the lake became rippling.     The opening hours are from 9:00 to 17:00. The fee is 300 yen for adults, 100 yen for elementary school students, and free for preschoolers. Until October 10th.
