Hirosaki's brewing company "GARUTSU" (Daikancho, Hirosaki City) and "Hirosaki BRICK" (Yoshinocho) will start the "Wandno Cider Project" to make sake from the recruited apples on March 3.

Last year, GARUTSU planned a project to make cider (apple liquor) using the collected apples. When recruited, it is said that 45 apples worth 20 kg boxes were collected from 175 people. Mr. Hideyuki Aiuchi, Vice President of GARUTSU, smiles, saying, "It's just like Hirosaki, using apples for bartering." "Wand" is a Tsugaru dialect meaning "us".

GARUTSU has a brewery in the central city of Hirosaki and in the roadside station "Tsugaru Shirakami" (Nishimeya Village). We brew fruit wine and cider using fruits from Aomori prefecture. Hirosaki BRICK, which participated this year, operates "CAFE & RESTAURANT BRICK", which is annexed to the Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art.

Mr. Aiuchi said, "Last year, more apples were collected than expected. This year, I would like to collaborate with Hirosaki BRICK to collect more apples. As the infection of the new coronavirus continues to spread, even a few people are depressed. I hope it will be a project that will make you feel better. "

Mayumi Naraoka of Hirosaki BRICK said, "In Aomori, there are many people who get apples or give them away cheaply, such as having an apple farmer in Aomori. There was a lot of apples left, so I brought them in and asked them to make a seedle. " "The cider made from the apples I brought in had a special taste," he said.

Five or more apples make up a 330 ml cider. If you have 10 or more, you will have 2 ciders, but you can have up to 2 ciders per person. Completion is scheduled for mid-May or later. “The taste of the cider that we make will change depending on the variety we bring in, and we are looking forward to what time this year will be,” says Aiuchi. Mr. Naraoka says, "I hope we can promote Hirosaki apples as an initiative of SDGs to make effective use of apples that could not be eaten, instead of discarding them."

Recruitment of apples is until March 31st. The reception place is "CAFE & RESTAURANT BRICK".
