The food market "Niji no Mart" (Ekimae-cho, Hirosaki-shi, TEL 0172-32-6411 ) near Hirosaki Station started selling "Sujiko no Utsuwa" on December 28th.

"Sujiko no Utsuwa" is Tsugaru-yaki with a diameter of 12.5 cm and a height of 6.2 cm. It was devised by Mr. Daitoyo Hamada of "Lively Market" who operates "Niji no Mart" as a pottery for preserving "Sujiko", a signboard product of "Hamada Kaisan" in Niji no Mart.

"Sujiko" is a salmonid egg that has been salted or soy sauce-pickled while still in the ovaries. "Sujiko" from Hamada Kaisan has been on sale since its founding in 1954 (Showa 29), and is popular not only for household use but also as a gift for midyear gifts and year-end gifts.

Mr. Hamada says, "I thought about putting out a non-plastic food storage container, inspired by my mother's conversation that I used to store sujiko in a pottery container that can be put out on the table as it is."

"Sujiko no Utsuwa" is manufactured by Tsugaru Chiyo Kiln (Jonan), a workshop specializing in Tsugaru ware. At the craft event exhibited this summer, Mr. Hamada called out to Mr. Manabu Sato of the Tsugaru Chiyo kiln, and it was realized that it was commercialized. There are three colors: blue, yellow, and black. "I hope you will take this as a new opportunity to get to know Tsugaru Yaki," says Hamada.

"If you use pottery, it will be more gorgeous than plastic when you put it on the table from the refrigerator. If it becomes a more Tsugaru-like dining scene," he said.

The price is 3,300 yen. Sold at the "Rainbow Mart" service counter.
