On September 21, Hirosaki City began to solicit poster designs for the "Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival" scheduled to be held in 2022.

The "Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival" is a cherry blossom festival held at Hirosaki Park, where 2,600 Yoshino cherry trees bloom, and since the time of full bloom coincides with Golden Week, visitors from all over the country visit. Important cultural properties such as the only castle tower that still exists in Tohoku and the Yagura Gate at the site of Hirosaki Castle have many attractions such as cherry blossom tunnels, illuminations, and flower baskets. Before Corona, there were cherry blossom viewing visitors from overseas.

The poster is for the announcement of the "Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival" to promote the attraction of tourists, and the adopted design will be posted as the main visual in various places throughout the country such as inside JR stations and tourist facilities. Kasai Kasai of the Tourism Division, who is in charge, says, "It is the first time for a public offering of designs within the range of records remaining in the city."

Currently, successive posters are on display at Hirosaki Park Picnic Square. The oldest poster of the remaining "Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival" is 1937 (Showa 12). In the past, there are also Japanese paintings drawn by world-famous woodblock printmaker Shiko Munakata from Aomori and Yoshiko Mita, who starred in the taiga drama "Life".

According to Mr. Kasai, the posters for the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival are so popular that some citizens want to decorate them, and some people still decorate posters from a few years ago. "In this project, I would like to expect a new design that has never been seen in the long history of the Sakura Festival, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year," says Kasai.

"Not only will it be an opportunity for many people to know about the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, but I also want the winners to make a great achievement in making posters for the" Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival. "

The application deadline is December 3rd. The highest award will be presented with a prize of 150,000 yen and a special product worth 10,000 yen. The screening will be conducted by four organizations sponsored by the Sakura Festival, and the results will be announced in mid-January 2022.
