Kudo Bread (Kanazawa, Aomori City) will renew the bread dough of its signature product "British Toast" on July 1st.

British toast is a sweet bread with margarine and granulated sugar sandwiched between two mountain-shaped breads, and features a package designed with the British flag. It is a long-selling product released in 1967 (Showa 42) and sells 5 million copies annually. Also known as Aomori Prefecture's soul food, there are 220 to 230 types of series products to date.

The renewal was planned 54 years after its release, as the British toast sold so far achieved a length equivalent to the distance around the earth in March this year. The person in charge said, "The outer circumference of the earth is said to be about 40,000 kilometers, and the length is about 4 billion centimeters. The vertical length of British toast is 17 centimeters. ".

In the renewal, the amount of homemade fermented Levin used for bread dough was increased, and the salt content in the dough was reduced by 0.4%. "The dough has a distinctive taste of bread and fillings. The softness has become more durable until the expiration date," said the person in charge. The package design has also been changed so that the outline of the mountain shape can be seen, and the product name has been increased.

British toast has been renewed several times in its 50-year history. In addition to changing the number of breads from one in 1976 (Showa 51) to two, in 2019 (Heisei 31), the homemade fermented Levin was used for the first time. "This time, we have brushed up from the renewal in 2019. Before that, there was no clear record, but there were two renewals," he said.

"By renewing in July, which is also the month of the Olympics, we would like to appeal to foreigners visiting Aomori and make Aomori even more exciting as a soul food."
