The "Lacquer Prototype Exhibition" was held at the space denega in Hirosaki (Kamigawaga-cho, Hirosaki City) from March 28th to 30th with the aim of creating a new Tsugaru-lacquer / lacquer brand.

The prototype displayed at the venue was lined with more than 50 types of lacquer handboards made from materials that were rarely used in traditional Tsugaru coating and lacquering, such as animal light pigments and aluminum powder. At the present stage, it is a prototype only, but the one with a gloss and texture that makes us feel the new possibilities of Tsugaru coating and lacquering was outstanding.

These prototypes were made by three young Tsugaru painters (Eriko Kitahata, Hirokazu Shimamori, and Yuji Mikami). At the venue, accessories such as rings, hair ornaments, makeup brushes, etc. were displayed mainly for women.

According to Moriyuki Ikeda, the representative of the new Tsugaru Nuri brand creation project, "The purpose is to create new places and opportunities for Tsugaru Nuri craftsmen, especially young craftsmen." "We will continue to contribute to the succession and development of the traditional Tsugaru lacquer ware industry by creating new brands over the long term," he said.
