The Shirakami Mountains Activation Executive Committee is currently seeking the design and nickname of the "Shirakami Mountains Mascot Character".

The world natural heritage "Shirakami Mountains" celebrated its 20th anniversary in December 2013 after being registered by UNESCO, and Hirosaki City and Nishimeya Village and related organizations have collaborated. The project started in an effort to disseminate the value and charm of the Shirakami Mountains. Akira Nishizawa, the secretariat of the committee, said, “We are looking forward to a work that is friendly and full of originality.”

Currently, works have arrived from all over the country, and it is said that there are applications from a wide range of generations from 89 years old to elementary school students. "We plan to make costumes for the adopted characters. It's interesting that the characters you draw are three-dimensional," he calls for application.
