Illuminated snow at Tsugaru Dam in Aomori.
The Tsugaru Dam in Nishimeya, Aomori is currently being lit up.
The dam, completed in 2016, is a gravity concrete dam with a height of 97.2 meters. With a width of 342 meters, it is one of the largest in the Tohoku region and has the largest total water storage capacity in Aomori Prefecture.
The light-up is carried out in line with the "Niogataki Ice Festival" held at Nishimeya. Mihogataki is a 33-meter-high waterfall type that freezes during the severe winter. Every year on the third Sunday of February, a fortune-telling of good luck is carried out due to freezing conditions.
This year, the festival will be held on the 17th, with the lights up until the 17th. A person in charge of the Iwakigawa Dam Integrated Management Office said, "The snowing dam has a lighter color and lighter atmosphere than the summer light-up."
"The light-up we were doing at the beginning of the Tsugaru dam was lit with a single color for each day of the week, but we decided to introduce rainbow colors from last year to enjoy even a little bit. Even with rainbow, there are several patterns of different colors. So I hope you enjoy it carefully."
"We have a library available until 21:00. Please note that the "Shirakami ga Homebashi Park" under the dam is currently closed."
Light-up lighting time is from 17:00 to 21:00. Until February 17th.
