On August 20, the "National High School Fashion Design Championship (Fashion Koshien 2017)" was held at Hirosaki Civic Center (Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture).

National competition of fashion design contest by high school students. This year, the 17th year, was attended by 1605 teams from 126 schools from 40 prefectures, and received 3009 design drawings. The 35 works selected in the first screening are costumes that were created based on the design drawings, and we hope for the final screening in the fashion show format on the same day.

The winner of this year is "Melting" designed by Ms. Yoshino (3 years) of Toyama Daiichi High School (Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture). The work, "expressing where the mass of the complex melted out", has a myriad of ellipses drawn on a white solid color. By covering the left half of the face and the body with a cloth, the "hidden" "Beauty" was created.

Mr. Yoshino said, "I wanted to express that there is beauty on the inside, even if I feel depressed that I am ugly," he said, "All the patterns are handwritten. Each ellipse is marked with a name pen. The detailed work was difficult, but I'm glad I won the championship." Seine Sakamoto (3rd year), who worked as a model and model of the work, said, “I practiced walking the model for the first time when I arrived at the venue. In the production, I concentrated on walking so that I could see only the front. I couldn't hide my surprise."

"Yosoou" from Hirosaki Jitsugyo High School (Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture) was selected as the runner-up, and the "Audience Award", which was decided by a vote of 985 visitors, was also awarded. Kasumi Fujimoto (3rd year), who also designed and modeled the work, blew the venue with a performance that closed one eye with one finger and puts out the tongue. Mr. Fujimoto recalls, "I made it in the image of a combat suit that "pretends" a strong pattern to protect myself. I enjoyed walking on the runway."

Jumiko Hara, a judge, commented, “I was worried about deciding the prize like never before, because it was a work of high level. Among them, the work that shines “high school student” led to the result”. Yoko Otsuka, the chairman of the judging committee, advised that "it is important to be fascinating as "a work in which one's own thoughts are hidden"".
