On December 11th, an event was held to challenge Guinness at the Tsugaru Apple Market in Itayanagi, Aomori Prefecture (Itayanagi, Kitatsugaru-gun).

The event challenged the Guinness World Record of "Longest relay of people feeding each other". Itayanagi-machi, which has established the "Apple Margazing Ordinance" that manages quality safety throughout the town as an apple production area, tried using apples from the same town.

In a relay, participants in a line feed the next participant a bite of a half-cut apple. The number of participants was 1101, surpassing the current Guinness World Record of 1026.

This challenge, which started with a signal from a Guinness World Records official certification member from Guinness World Records Limited (London, England), failed twice because of a violation of eating apples with his own hands. Even if there was a rule violation, the third challenge was to be held until the end.

The challenge started at 10 o'clock took 1 hour and 30 minutes or more to finish eating. There was a lot of tension inside the venue, saying "don't use your hands" and "don't panic", but when the last participant sang an apple, applause naturally rose.

Kayoko Fukushi, a representative of the Olympic women's marathon and from the same town, ate the 1027th person who set a new record. Fukushi recalls, "I was nervous."

After the announcement of the examination, when the Guinness World Record was approved, the loudest applause and cheers came from the venue. Mayor Makoto Narita of Itayanagi-cho, who received the Guinness certificate, smiled, saying, "As an apple village, we were able to disseminate apples not only to Japan but to the world."
