On May 24, "Unknown Mucha Exhibition" started at Hirosaki City Museum (Shimohiragincho, Hirosaki City). Approximately 160 exhibits including Tohoku's first public works. Mucha's work will be exhibited in Hirosaki for the first time in 20 years.

Alphonse Mucha is a Czech painter and commercial designer representing the early 1900s. Became famous for working on the poster for French stage actress Sarah Bernard, who produced not only posters, but also commercial advertisements, magazines, and decorative panels. The style is characterized by graceful women and curvy flowers, and the works that represent the gorgeous Art Nouveau style are very popular among women.

The exhibition will focus on the "Chimar Collection," which was collected by three Czech doctors for three generations. Among the 33 materials that will be unveiled in Japan for the first time are unpublished works that Mucha drew at the age of 15, as well as valuable oil paintings that have never been exhibited. The exhibition will be the final venue of the "Unknown Mucha Exhibition".

“This exhibition was realized because it was a renewed museum,” said Takahito Munekata, a curator at the same building. It was renewed on April 5 after a year of repair work. The illuminance can be adjusted and the humidity can be controlled according to the work, and it was possible to meet strict international exhibition standards. "I would be happy if you could pay attention to the facilities of the new museum," he said.

During the exhibition period, the work will be explained regularly. There will be a gallery talk for the general public every Sunday at 14:00 and a parent-child appreciation event for children at 10:30 every Saturday. All are free of charge.

Opening hours are from 9:30 to 16:30. Admission is 800 yen for the general public, 400 yen for high school and university students, and 200 yen for elementary and junior high school students. Until June 29th. Open daily during the period.
