    The traditional food “Megoya Tofu” currently sold at “Beach Nishimeya” (Nishimeya village, Nakatsugaru-gun) in Nishimeya, Aomori is showing a good sales.

    Nishimeya Village, located at the gateway to the Shirakami Mountains, a world natural heritage site, is the smallest municipality in Aomori Prefecture. Megoya tofu is said to have been made at homes in the village such as Sunagose and Kawaharadaira. Residents were relocated due to the construction of the Tsugaru Dam, and production was once disrupted, but it was revived in 2012 due to the efforts of the Tsugaru Dam construction office staff and the village. It was sold in 2014.

    Mameya tofu is made by hand using 100% soybeans from the same village. Compared to general tofu, it has a firmness that does not collapse and the bean taste remains strong. The price is 160 yen per one.

    Starting from December 26th last year, we started selling only 40 units a day, it was sold out every day, and there are days when it disappears in the morning early in the morning, about 1 hour 30 minutes from Aomori city just to buy tofu It is said that there were some customers who visited. Mr. Yuhei Koyamauchi of the Shirakami Corporation, who is in charge of manufacturing, smiles, saying "I just received media coverage, I have not advertised at all. I am honestly happy."

    Make tofu every morning using water near 0 degrees in a manufacturing room below 5 degrees. “Mameya tofu is delicious because it is made in this environment that is almost natural in our village,” says Mr. Koyamauchi. "This year's soybeans are so good that they definitely taste better than last year. The recommended way to eat is tofu."
