Shimojo Bridge in Hirosaki Park will be closed to traffic from February 20 due to renovation work.

The Gejohashi Bridge, which connects the Honmaru and Ninomaru of Hirosaki Castle, is a wooden bridge except for the 11.7-meter-high bridge girder. It is a popular photo spot for tourists because you can take pictures of the Hirosaki Castle tower and cherry blossoms.

The work will be carried out because the timber of the balustrades and bridge boards has deteriorated. The last rebuilding work was done in 2005, so it will be the first time in about 17 years. During the period when Gejo Bridge is closed to traffic, access to Honmaru will be limited to Takadake Bridge on the north side. Closed until March 31st.

Nishibori's Shunyo Bridge, which had undergone repair work since September last year, is now closed to traffic and can be crossed. Hirosaki City plans to construct other bridges in Hirosaki Park in the future.

A person in charge of the Hirosaki Castle Maintenance and Utilization Promotion Office in the Parks and Green Space Division called out, "I would like to ask for everyone's cooperation so that we can welcome the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival with a beautiful bridge."
