“Kamame” has been popular in the Tsugaru region for a long time and is said to be edamame that is native to Aomori prefecture. The stems and pods have dark brown hair and are characterized by large grains and strong sweetness. Because of its good taste, it has been cultivated in the prefecture for generations, but most of them are not in the prefecture and are consumed at home because the harvest time is later than midsummer, when demand for edamame is high.

In this event, both the judges selected by the study group and the judges recruited from the general public will conduct a screening process including tastings, and the vote will determine the "strongest bean". The "hair beans" to be displayed are limited to the so-called native species (black eye blue soybean). There are three items to be examined: “deliciousness”, “cultivation commitment”, and “hair bean-like shape and appearance”. The study group will consider the registration of seeds and seedlings for the bean that won the prize for branding.

The bean seeds can be purchased at seed and seed shops and home centers in the prefecture, and seed sowing is generally done from late May to late June, so the study group said, "It will still be in time." "Because the taste changes depending on the soil, climate, cultivation method, etc., it may be possible to make new woolen beans. I would like to challenge the producers not only in the Tsugaru region but also in Aomori prefecture."
