The old folk house cafe “Rural” (Nishimeya Muratashiro, TEL 0172-85-2213) in Nishimeya Village in the southwestern part of Aomori Prefecture will celebrate its 8th anniversary on June 10.

Mitsuko Kato, the store manager, travels from Aomori City, where she is at home, to Nishimeya-mura every morning for about an hour by car. The village is the gateway to the world natural heritage "Shirakami Mountains" and has a population of about 1,500. “I wanted to have a cafe in Nishimeya village surrounded by nature, so I started by myself,” Kato said.

When I started the business, the villagers said, "I had a coffee at a coffee shop for the first time in 40 years." Six years ago, an old folk house was renovated and moved to the same place. On the pillar of the counter, there are traces of the family's "Takekurabe" that he used to live.

“When my family's grandmother died, an image of a TV interview was broadcast at the night of the relatives' gathering. It happened that the room used by the grandmother was on the TV, and all the relatives were immersed in their memories. ", He says, and he continues to interact with his family.

To celebrate the 8th anniversary, special sweets menus are on sale from the 6th. A set of roll cake and coffee (800 yen) that uses apple "Chiyuki" whose cut end does not discolor, limited to 10 to 15 sets per day. “I had the opportunity to get Chiyuki, which has a small shipment,” says Kato. The sales period is until June 14th.

The drink menu is "Mori no Blend" (hot coffee = 450 yen), "Buna no Shizuku" (dried coffee = 450 yen), tea (500 yen), various organic herbal teas (550 yen). For the food menu, we will prepare "Tomato Tokinokono Curry" and "Torori Omurice" (above, single item = 600 yen, drink set = 950 yen, cake set = 1,250 yen).
