On May 23, the special exhibition "Experience the Golden Age of Ukiyo-e" has begun at Hirosaki City Museum (Shimohiragincho, Hirosaki City).

In the same exhibition, from the "Hiraki collection", which is said to be one of the three pre-war Ukiyo-e collections in Japan, 145 items that are only outstanding masterpieces such as designated important cultural properties are exhibited. According to curator Takahito Munekata, "you can learn about the ukiyo-e of artists such as Harunobu Suzuki, Sharaku Tosusai, Hokusai Katsushika, and Hiroshige Utagawa over time."

The first half of the exhibition is until June 7. From June 9th, it will be the second half exhibition, and 15 works will be replaced. Hiroshige Utagawa's "Eight Suburbs of Edo" are said to be displayed in four pieces.

"The names of the artists who are commonly known are the names of the artists who drew the picture. There are engravers who make woodblocks and sushi who print pictures, but most of them are unknown. There are also ukiyo-e prints with irregularities and subtle shades that are beautifully expressed. I would like you to experience the craftsman's skills and see for yourself. "

The curator of the same building will hold a gallery talk every Sunday from 14:00 during the exhibition period. Every Saturday, there is also an appreciation event for parents and children to explain their works. Both are free.

Opening hours are from 9:30 to 4:30. Admission is 800 yen for the general public, 400 yen for high school and university students, and 200 yen for elementary and middle school students.
