"Kogane Yaki" at Kawagoe Kogane ware shop in Dote-cho, Hirosaki City has been priced at 10 yen for 10 yen from March 1st.

Koganeyaki, also known as Hirosaki citizen's soul food, is a Japanese confectionery made by adding white bean paste to a dough prepared by dissolving flour and other ingredients in water and baking. It does not use eggs or milk, so it is different from large-format grill. The store was founded around 1885 (Meiji 18), and it is not certain, says Michiko Kawagoe, the fourth generation. At present, he and his sister, Noriko, are running the store.

It was said that the first generation Ojiro-san sold at the stalls in Yonomiya was the beginning of the golden ware, and the manufacturing method has not changed since that time. “We changed the fire from charcoal to gas,” says Kawagoe. It is said that the price started from 1 sen, but it is still uncertain.

Regarding the price increase, "I have been working hard at 50 yen for 20 years, but it has become difficult to maintain it," says Kawagoe. He said the charges remained unchanged even when the consumption tax was raised last year, but he said, "I'm wrapping paper has increased by 40% compared to 20 years ago," with remorse.

There was a rumor in the city that "Golden ware and postcards have the same price," since the price of gold ware that has been in existence for over 120 years has been similar to that of postcards. The price increase has opened up the price gap, but “I have never matched the price of postcards,” says Kawagoe. As for the rumor, he speculated that he might have explained the price using the word "postcard" in an interview with a certain newspaper.
