Hirosaki City is currently recruiting members of the "Regional Development Cooperation Corps" that conduct regional cooperation activities.

The “Regional Development Cooperation Corps” promoted as a part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications accepts people who move from urban areas to rural areas and work to activate the area. This recruitment is limited to the Soma area, which is a rural area in Hirosaki City, and recruits two active members.

The Soma district, which was merged in 2006, is located in the southwestern part of the city, and has an area of approximately 100 square kilometers (approximately 2250 Tokyo Domes) with 92% of agricultural and forest land. About 35% of the population is about 3,800, and the number of people who work in agriculture is about 35%. In an area where agriculture centering on apples is prosperous, apples of brands such as "Hiba apples" are mainly shipped.
