The 9th volume of the cartoon "Flying Witch" (Kodansha) set in Aomori/Hirosaki was released on June 9.

An apprentice witch, Makoto Kohata, who came to Aomori, depicts the everyday life with her relatives. Bi-monthly serialization in "Separate Shonen Magazine" (Kodansha), the author is Chihiro Ishizuka, a manga artist living in Hirosaki. Many fans come to the site because they draw the actual scenery in the play, and in this volume the Hirosaki Neputa Festival is drawn over two episodes.

According to Mr. Ishizuka, the Hirosaki Neputa Festival was drawn with the help of an assistant from Aomori. "Because it's a local festival, I drew it carefully with plenty of pages. Since this year's Neputa Festival was canceled due to the new coronavirus, I read "Flying Witch" and feel the atmosphere of the festival as much as possible. I'm happy if you can feel it."

On the cover of Volume 9, a guardian dog from Iwakiyama Shrine is drawn. Mr. Ishizuka says, "I basically make the cover a place I like. The characteristic of the Komainu at Iwakiyama Shrine is that it stands upside down, which was one of the places I wanted to draw from before."

Mr. Ishizuka said, “In the beginning, kanji was included, so even people who do not understand the Tsugaru dialect could understand it, so I suggested that all be hiragana. I grinned when I found a comment that was difficult. ".
