Tooku Gijuku High School (Hirosaki City Ishikawa Chojamori, TEL 0172-92-4111) is currently focusing on online learning.

This is the only high school in Tohoku that has been certified as an excellent school for computerization of information by the Japan Association for Educational Technology (JAET) this year. In 2018 (Heisei 30), Wi-fi was laid throughout the building, and learning support cloud services "Classi" and "Loironote" were introduced. A Microsoft account can be distributed to all students, and office software and cloud storage can be used. Starting this year, all new students were given an iPad.

March closed all over Japan. The new semester started on April 8th, but was temporarily closed from 21st to May 6th. Students basically do not go to school, and their homeroom teachers check attendance by email or ZOOM every morning. The students are working on the learning tasks distributed by the subject in charge according to the class time.

Public relations officer Ken Nakata said, “There are many issues with online learning. It's still difficult to stream live lessons because students have different network environments and different radio wave conditions. Server load causes poor response. There are problems, but we can confirm and submit assignments, and contact the school online."

Mathematics teacher Ichimoto Mouchi has recorded 10-15 minutes of videos explaining the tasks every day and distributing them to students. Mr. Mouchi said, "I wasn't used to it at the beginning, I forgot to press the record button and recorded, and I was embarrassed when I was teaching in a classroom with no one."

Information classes for teachers are held twice a week. “Aomori Prefecture is a prefecture with a lower level of ICT education compared to the rest of the country. We are still studying and are feeling the situation. The infection status of the new coronavirus may change day by day, and the school closure may be prolonged. No," says Nakata.

"We are currently in a situation where club activities are suspended due to school closures and our classmates are not able to interact, but we will continue to work hard as the demand for online learning will continue to increase."
