Hirosaki City started a matching business on April 24 with people who are on leave due to the new coronavirus and farmers.

Targeting Hirosaki citizens and those who commute to school in the city, those who fill out the job applicant registration vote and apply to the Agriculture and Forestry Department Agricultural Administration Division by e-mail, etc. The project connects people and the city supports part of the wages.

The city official said, “I would like to make use of this program for people who have been dismissed or are on leave due to poor business performance, or for students who have limited part-time work at restaurants, etc.”

According to the 2015 (Heisei 27) Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications census data, in Hirosaki City, the percentage of primary industry workers is 15.5%, which is higher than the national average of 4.2%. The apple, which boasts the highest production in Japan, is in a prosperous season from May to November, and it also helps to solve the problem of chronic labor shortage due to aging and lack of successors.

The city official said, "The system was created urgently due to the spread of the new coronavirus. We can introduce farmers who are suffering from labor shortages in cooperation with agricultural cooperatives. Please help the difficult agricultural production site."
