Hiroka The apples raised by the students of Hirosaki Municipal Higashimeya Junior High School were auctioned on November 7 at Hirosaki Central Fruit and Vegetable Market (Suehiro, Hirosaki City).

At the same junior high school, apples are grown on a school farm for one year as part of an extracurricular lesson. On the school excursion in May, we are also promoting the apples we made at the destination. In 2013 (Heisei 25), Tohoku region food education activity contest "Agriculture, forestry and fishery experience field" was awarded the Tohoku Agricultural Administration Director's Award.

On that day, 22 students from the fifth and sixth grades of Higashimeya Elementary School and 53 students from the same junior high school visited the fruit and vegetable market and shipped apples harvested from 50 trees. Using a wooden box (approx. 20 kg) containing 60 to 70 apples in one box, this year auctioned 60 Fuji and 30 Wo Lin.

This year it was well done due to the calm weather and no disaster, the highest price was 1,000 yen higher than last year, and it was auctioned off at 17,000 yen. Ryoto Nishizawa, a second-year student at Higashimeya Junior High School and the director of the apple farm guidance department, smiles, saying, "I am happy that the apples I have grown over a year have been sold at high prices. I want you to eat them deliciously."

The proceeds will be used for the next year's plantation maintenance and school excursion budget.
