The annual "New Soba Festival" is currently held at the "teacher's room" in the cafe at the interesting school in the mountains (Kuroishi City, Aomori Prefecture).

The festival starts on October 1st and uses buckwheat flour from Akita prefecture until 13th, Iwate prefecture until 26th, and Aomori prefecture from 27th. Mr. Fukushi, the president of “Tsugaru Saikou” who runs the school, is now 65 years old. About 20 years ago, I started studying soba, saying "I want to make soba hospitality." He became independent at the age of 58 and started offering soba noodles at the school, saying, "I want to continue working until I die."

Oyama no Omoe School is a tourist facility that opened in 2009 after renovating a wooden 2-story abandoned school built in 1963. It has three permanent exhibits.

The "Showa Tools Exhibition" will display about 1,000 tools donated from all over Japan. Spaces recreating the living room of the 1955's and organs from the Taisho era are lined up. In the classroom on the 2nd floor, there is an exhibition space for crayon artist Atsushi Sonouchi's atelier and crayon drawings. Built on the site of the pool, “Kanko Yamazoen” is a vinyl house that uses the heat of the hot spring's waste water, and you can enjoy the wild grasses of Hakkoda all year round. Located in the park, the "Matagi World" opened in June has opened dozens of displays such as displays for learning about Matagi culture and animal foil production.

During the "New Soba Festival," the only menu items are Zaru Soba, Kake Soba (¥ 650 or more), and Maitake No Tempura (¥ 100). “If you not only enjoy the new buckwheat from autumn, but also enjoy the heartwarming display of Atsushi Sonnai's crayon drawings,” Fukushi says.

Business hours are from 10:00 to 14:30 (last order). The New Soba Festival is until November 9th. Open during the period.
