The final screening of the "19th National High School Fashion Design Championship" (Fashion Koshien 2019) was held on August 25 in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture.

In a fashion design contest among high school students from all over the country, this year there were applications from 123 schools, 1633 teams, 2771 works from 39 prefectures, and 34 works from 33 schools from 27 prefectures passed the first screening. The final screening was held in fashion show format.

The winning work is "UNIT" by Okayama Minami High School (Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture). Ms. Sana Morimoto (3rd year), who was in charge of design after winning her first application, recalls, "I was thinking of participating in a design using origami from the second grade." About 2,400 unit origami sheets were used. It is said that he imagined that each piece was assembled and one work was completed.

“The work of weaving in a triangle has everyone in the class help us and we all win,” says Moriyama. Moeko Fujita (3rd year), who served as a model, said, “Since the protagonist is the costume, I thought about posing so that the costume would stand out rather than myself, and I was conscious of whether the costume looks beautiful.

The runner up is Gojo Kawahara Daiichi High School (Goshogawara City, Aomori Prefecture), "Wadaba Jomon Person." Following the runner-up work "Wadaba Machine Sanaru" last year, he won the runner-up for two consecutive years.

Nana Saito (3rd year), who designed the product, says, “I've been particular about changing the way the ropes of the costume are woven by changing the parts one by one. I want to work with the design in the future.” Kaya Sasaki (3rd year), who was in charge of the model, said, "I practiced walking without bending the joints so that the movement would be like Jomon pottery."

The judge's chairperson, Yoko Otsuka, sent an ale saying, "If you can't subtract any more in designing, you can make something really beautiful. Think about the fun of manufacturing after participating in the competition." ..
