On July 14th, at the Space Denega (Kamigawagacho, Hirosaki City), a memorial event for the opening of the new museum was held, and the facility name and opening date were announced.

The Yoshinomachi Brick Warehouse (Yoshinomachi), located in the center of Hirosaki, is scheduled to open as a museum in the spring of 2020, and renovation work had begun in June of last year.

This warehouse was built by a businessman and brewer, Tosuke Fukushima, as a brewery and warehouse from 1907 (Meiji 40) to 1923 (Taisho 12). Although it succeeded in mass-producing cider (apple wine) for the first time in Japan, it has long been used as a warehouse, and there has been a movement to propose reuse from the latter half of the 1980s. In the 2000s, Hiroto-born contemporary artist Yoshitomo Nara held three exhibitions.

At the event, the name of the museum was changed to "Hirosaki Brick Warehouse Museum" and the opening date was announced as April 11, 2020. The logo is designed with a horizontal bar that looks like Hirosaki's "H" on top, and expands and contracts depending on the length of the letters. We also have designs such as "HIROSAKI MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART" and "HIROSAKI MOCA" written in English. It is said to be used properly depending on the situation.

At the venue, under the theme of "What is a new museum from Hirosaki?", Mr. Fumio Nanjo, who is a general advisor, Mr. Kazushige Hattori, who was in charge of logo design, and Mr. Ariyoshi Kosugi of NPO "harappa" (former Nagamachi) In addition, from the same day, the website will be released, and details of exhibitions and collections for citizens will be announced in mid-October.

In a dialogue, Nanjo says, "There are already several museums of contemporary art in Aomori prefecture, and we would like to create a museum that has a function such as a "creative hub" that allows us to interact with artists because they are close to citizens." talked.

Hirosaki Art Creation, which is funded by Starts Corporation (Chuo-ku, Tokyo), is in charge of project management for this museum, and is designed by Takeshi Tane, an architect working in France.
