On September 1, telephone pole signs were installed at four locations in the city to inform tourists and citizens of the history of Hirosaki streets and unknown episodes. I worked on the "Hirosaki Town Walking Tourism Promotion Executive Committee".

Designed as a tool for city walk tourism promoted by Hirosaki City, the signboard describes buildings that have disappeared over time and unexpected historical events. According to Mr. Takashi Sakamoto of the committee, the purpose is not only to provide information to tourists, but also to convey the history and memory of the city to citizens.

At the beginning of the project, there were problems with production costs and selection of installation location. However, focusing on the fact that the existing utility poles (Tohoku Electric Power) can be used to reduce the risk while installing, it became a trial run. The four selected locations have well-developed sidewalks and are safe for pedestrians to see when they stop.

If the effects of the installation are verified, it is planned to continue to add telephone pole signs to various places throughout the city. “I would like tourists and citizens to find out where to find the signs by walking in the city with their own feet. That is how to enjoy walking around the city,” says Sakamoto.
