The Yoshino-machi brick warehouse in the Yoshino-cho Ryokuchi Park (Yoshino-cho, Hirosaki City) in the center of Hirosaki is now in full-scale renovation work.

The facility is scheduled to open in April 2020 as an arts and culture centered on contemporary art. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 9, and the installation of the white temporary enclosure for construction was completed on June 28.

The brick warehouse was built as a brewing factory by a businessman and brewer Tosuke Fukushima in 1907. After World War II, Yoshii Sake Brewing (Hirosaki City Ekimae) took over, used it as a warehouse, and succeeded in mass-producing cider (apple wine) for the first time in Japan. In 2002, 2005 and 2006, Michi Nara, a contemporary artist from Hirosaki, holds exhibitions.

Currently, three buildings with different construction years remain, and in the project to be renewed, a walking space called Museum Road will be created between the three buildings, and in addition to the exhibition room, it will be converted into a studio and community gallery. A private business operator opens a "Cider Cafe" equipped with a museum cafe and a cider workshop.

Due to the full-scale construction work, access to the area around the brick warehouse was banned, and the exhibition of the white dog object "A to Z Memorial Dog" by Nara was suspended until the reopening.

In the future, the construction will proceed with a policy of partially repairing the damaged outer wall and seismic reinforcement and leaving the existing facility as much as possible.
