Hirogin's kogin sashimi artist Koginya Sashibo succeeded in creating a QR code using the Tsugaru kogin sashimi technique on January 18.

Tsugaru kogin sashimi is a traditional embroidery technique that has been passed down in the Tsugaru region since the Edo period. The feature is that it stabs with an odd number of eyes against the vertical weave, and a geometric pattern called "modoco" is sewn on. At that time, it was born as part of measures against the cold, but in recent years it has been attracting attention as a fashion item for sundries and accessories.

According to Sashibou, "I sometimes couldn't take a normal photo because Garage tried to read the Tsugaru kogin sashimi I made in the past as a QR code," he said. "I hope Tsugaru kogin sashimi will become a hot topic even if it's a little bit more fun," he explains why he created the QR code.

The hand-sewn QR code we created is about 1.9 cm on each side. Based on the created QR code, the production process converts 28 squares on one side into the following figure, and sew the QR code while referring to the figure below. "It takes about 30 minutes to stab itself. It took more time to draw the figure below," he said.

"It tends to be easy to read immediately after being stabbed or on the computer screen, but it can be difficult depending on the terminal and the reading environment," says Sashibou. "There are still many improvements, but I'm happy if someone like me who creates a QR code or someone who starts Tsugaru kogin stabbing appears," he says with a smile.
