    On December 9th, "Apple King Decisive Battle 2017" will be held in Hirosaki Civic Cultural Exchange Hall on the 4th floor of Hiroro, a complex commercial facility in Hirosaki (Ekimae-cho, Hirosaki City).

    The same tournament where you eat and compare apples and decide the victory or defeat based on the taste. In Aomori, there was a long-running “Apples Fair” (sponsored by the Aomori Apples Association), which decides the rank based on the color and shape of apples. Planned by young farmers. This is the 5th time this year.

    The only apple used is "San Fuji" which is the main variety. In addition to guest judges, visitors selected by lottery will also appear as judges, and will choose apple apples that are not known by the producers and choose only one. Of the five judges, the one with the most selection wins.

    Among the 27 people who will participate this year, there are Chiaki Kanno, the representative of Iwate Prefecture South Team, who will challenge to win the tournament for the third time in a row, and the first farmer from Nagano Prefecture. In this tournament, a high school student quota was set up for the first time, and 4 groups from local agricultural high schools participated. One pair of high school students who survived can advance to the main tournament.

    In addition to the apple tasting corner for all farmers during the event, there is a video corner where the farmers take their own videos. Executive committee Shiko Sakamoto smiles, "The elaborate images can show a new aspect of the farmers." Inside the venue, you will be presented with apple pies and a "souvenir lottery" where you can win products such as processed apples and agricultural products brought by participants.

    Mr. Sakamoto said, “The taste of the same varieties varies depending on the producer. It's an unusual place in the country where more than 30 farmers gather to eat and compare only Sun Fuji. It's not only the choice of one's own dish but also the interaction with young farmers I hope you enjoy it too."
