On December 9th, the "145th Anniversary Concert of Tookui Gijuku Founding" will be held by jazz pianist Kei Akagi at the Tou Gijuku High School (Ishikawa, Hirosaki, TEL 0172-92-4111).

The school was founded as the training hall of the Tsugaru Clan School at the present Hirosaki Tourism Convention (Shimohiragincho). It opened as a private school in 1872 (Meiji 5) and moved to its present location in 1987 (Showa 62).

Akagi was born in Sendai in 1953. From the same school, he was exposed to jazz music while he was in school, moved to the US after working at the International Christian University. Started working as a professional musician at the age of 26. He has worked as a group member of Miles Davis called "Jazz Emperor" from 1989 to 1991, and has also performed with guitarist Alan Holdsworth and tenor saxophone player Stanley Tarrentine. ..

"It's been over 10 years since Mr. Akagi performed at his alma mater," said Hitoshi Ichinohe, secretary general of the high school. Mr. Ichinohe once heard Mr. Akagi's performance in high school, and said, "Since then, the rumor of Mr. Akagi was among the students. I had heard the performance at the school festival, and I am still impressed at that time. I remember."

Tamaya Honda, who plays the drums on the day of the trio, plays both domestically and internationally, and he is also focusing on instructors and composition activities regardless of the music genre. Based in Tokyo, Toshiya Wakai has been a member of the “Kay Akagi Trio” since 2012 with the number one download in the jazz section of a music site.

Mr. Ichinohe said, “A rare opportunity for a prestigious artist from his alma mater to play. The piano he played was actually played by Akagi in his high school days, and will be a co-star unique to the locals. I want you to listen to the performance."

The opening time is 5:30 and the starting time is 18:00. Admission is 3,000 yen in advance and 3,500 yen on the day. Handled at Nakasan Hirosaki store and Sakurano Hirosaki store.
