    On April 28th, at the Hirosaki Civic Cultural Exchange Hall on the 4th floor of Hirohiro's commercial complex "Hiroro" (Ekimae-cho, Hirosaki City), an event "Kogin Festival" was started to introduce Tsugaru kogin sashimi.

    This is the sixth event to be held. Tsugaru kogin sashimi is a traditional Tsugaru technique of sashimi that has been in existence since the Edo period. Since it was impossible to wear cotton cloth at that time, it was born as a measure against the cold. There are more than 150 types of geometric patterns called modco, and depending on the combination, countless patterns are produced. In recent years, Tsugaru kogin sashimi has been applied to various things such as business card cases and brooches.

    The event will be held for 3 days. The venue is divided into a booth for exhibiting works, a space for selling Tsugaru kogin sashimi miscellaneous goods, and a booth for providing experiences such as workshops.

    The exhibition booth was exhibited by 14 groups of artists and groups, and exhibited at the "Hirosaki District Environmental Maintenance Center" (Tsutsui, Machida, Hirosaki City). Leaders of tapestry and kogin sashimi using recycled PET bottle threads. Works by Hisako Kamada, "Aomori's sashiko kimono," which is an important tangible folk cultural property designated by the prefecture, will be exhibited.

    There are 14 writers in the sales space from inside and outside the prefecture. In addition to holding a workshop to stab Tsugaru kogin on teddy bears, union jacks, tool bags, etc. three times a day, for a total of 9 times, exhibit and sell original kogin works of artists and related products.

    “I want tourists to see it as a traditional culture of Tsugaru because it overlaps with the Hirosaki Sakura Festival,” said Masahiro Kawamura, the executive committee chairman of the Kogin Festival. "I want more people who think Tsugaru kogin sashimi to be older. I want them to touch the new Tsugaru kogin sashimi."
