On April 1st, a special exhibition “Kikari!! Museum's Best 40” was held at the Hirosaki City Museum (Shimohiragincho, Hirosaki City) to commemorate the 40th anniversary of its opening.

The same building opened in 1977 (Showa 52). We will exhibit 40 items selected by the curators of the museum from the 17,000 items that have been collected such as history, arts and crafts.

This year, the “Hirosaki Sakura Festival” will mark the 100th anniversary, so the “Photo Exhibition: A nostalgic cherry blossom viewing event/Sakura Festival” will be held at the same time. We will exhibit 75 photos of the Sakura Festival that were collected from the museum and citizens. The "Sakura Festival poster original picture" by print artist Shiko Munakata will also be exhibited.

Curator Takahito Munekata says, “I chose 40 points for the 40th anniversary, but it was a series of hardships. I also have a particular commitment to the exhibition method.” The 20 items collected in the arts and crafts exhibition room include Sugito and Kinji Karashishi folding screen that were actually used in Hirosaki Castle. The room is a photo taking space.

Panel displays such as the "Sekigahara Battle Screen", which is an important cultural property designated by the Tsugaru family, and "Tsugaru Masamune", a national treasure, will also be displayed. Mr. Murokata says, "The works that were exhibited this time are only a part. There are still many items in the collection, and I would like to create more opportunities for citizens to see."

It will be open for free on April 20th as an opening anniversary.

Opening hours are from 9:30 to 16:30. Closed on April 17th and May 15th. The admission fee is 280 yen for the general public, 140 yen for high school and university students, and 80 yen for elementary and junior high school students. Until June 4th.
