On June 29th, in Fukaura Town, Aomori Prefecture, "Fukaura Tuna Cuisine Grand Prix 2014" will be held to decide the grand prix for creative dishes using tuna in the town.

This event, which will be held for the first time this time, was launched by the Fukaura Tuna Cuisine Promotion Council to promote Tuna in Fukaura both inside and outside the prefecture. According to the secretary general of the council, Mr. Maguro Suzuki, "Oma is famous for the Aomori tuna, but the same tuna caught in Fukaura as it catches tuna that migrates from the Sea of Japan to Tsugaru Bay is the same as Oma." About half of the total catch of tuna in the prefecture is landed in Fukaura, and the catch of tuna is the largest in the prefecture.

Since last year, the council has started offering "Fukaura tuna steak bowl" that uses local tuna as a local gourmet food. With the aim of attracting more tourists, we have planned this grand prix as a new project.

At the grand prix, 7 restaurants in the town have entered 11 kinds of tuna dishes. Among the dishes that took four months to create, each shop challenges with elaborate dishes such as "tuna hand-rolled tortilla", "tuna kiritanpo nabe", "takoyaki-style tuna grill".
